Admission Requirements for UG and PG Studies in Croatia

Undergraduate Studies Application

The undergraduate studies admission process in Croatian is centralised and managed by the Central Application Office which is a part of the Agency for Science and Higher Education (Website: https://www.azvo.hr/en). Students are selected on the basis of the secondary school grades and State Matura scores. 

Application Dates and Deadlines

Admission period: July and September

The September admissions are declared if the admission quota for July period is not filled.

Candidates must register for the Croatian State Matura exams and submit all the required application documents by February in order to take the State Matura exams in May and apply for admissions in July.

Registration Procedure

Students who hold a secondary education completion certificate or its equivalent can apply for the undergraduate study programmes at the Croatian higher education institutions through a Central Application System (Website: https://www.azvo.hr/en/central-applications-office)

Candidates must fill in the application form completely and choose 10 courses/programmes priority-wise. 

Candidates must enter the details about the secondary school grades achieved, personal details, and sports or extra-curricular and competition participation information.

After filling the form completely, take a print of the form. Candidates will receive a user account, personal identification number (PIN), password, and enrollment confirmation number of the chosen course of study (TAN) after completing the registration process at the central application system.

State Matura exams: Candidates must also register for the Matura exam if required. 
** Candidates from countries that do not have an external evaluation mechanism of secondary education are required to register for State Matura exams. 

Documentation

Candidates must submit all the required documents for evaluation to the concerned institution. Following documents must be submitted:
  • Completed application form 
  • Evidence of citizenship: For Croatian nationals, citizenship certificate is required; and for international students, a copy of passport is required.
  • Secondary school completion certificates/diploma
  • State Matura exams results/certificate and the Matura exam registration form (if applicable)
  • Identification document
  • Evidence of sports status or proof of any other achievement
All the above mentioned documents must be sent to the National Centre for External Evaluation of Education, generally by February.

Candidates who have an equivalent of the State Matura exam from their own country must sent the documents to the Central Application Office by July.

** Documents must be certified copies.

Entrance Examinations

Some of the higher education institutions have entrance exams. Prospective candidates must contact the relevant institution to know more about it. Generally, the entrance exams are held in July and in September.

Graduate and Postgraduate Studies Application

Students who want to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies in Croatia must apply directly to the institution of their choice. Fill in the application form and submit it along with the following documents
  • Educational credential: Secondary school certificates and relevant undergraduate degree
  • Curriculum vitae 
  • Statement of purpose
  • Grade transcript
  • Reference letter: At least two from the home higher education institution member/professor.
  • Croatian language proficiency certificate (required if the course of study is in Croatian).
  • List of courses undertaken
*All the documents must be translated as certified translations. 

Interviews are also conducted for admission to the graduate and postgraduate study programmes in Croatia.
Students must get in touch with the International Cooperation Office at the higher education institution of their choice to know more about the application procedure. 

Exchange Programmes Application

Students who wish to study in Croatia through an exchange programme must contact their home higher education institution and Ministry of Education and determine if they have bilateral cooperation agreements with any of higher education institutions in Croatia. If there is any cooperation agreement, the home country institution will make the announcement for the applications to study at Croatian higher education institutions.

The admission criteria for the exchange programmes are based on the candidate’s motivation, which is evaluated through the candidate’s application form, an interview and letter of motivation. 

Candidates must fill in the application form and submit it along with the required documents:
  • Educational credential: Secondary school certificates and relevant undergraduate degree
  • Curriculum vitae 
  • Statement of purpose
  • Grades received details
  • Reference letter: At least two from the home higher education institution member/professor
  • Croatian language proficiency certificate (required if the course of study is in Croatian).
